In working with individuals, I utilize an eclectic mix of intervention skills. What works for one may not work for another. Together with the client, I gage the specific and concrete parameters of the presenting issue. I then negotiate the goal(s) aimed for. We then explore the more subtle nuances of personality, history, level of distortion and vocabulary necessary to elicit a dialogue for change. Together with the client, we develop a treatment plan that safely encourages exploration and resolution of problematic issues causing distress, distortion, or behavioral difficulties in the present. In the practice of therapy I work with you to create a safe, supportive and nurturing arena in which to explore core areas of yourself.
My work with individuals includes therapy with survivors of trauma, substance abuse/dependence, mood disorders, depression and anxiety, co-existing disorders, life transition issues, existential concerns and issues specific to gay and lesbian clients. Within that broad range of clientele, some of the following are potential frames of engagement: Traditional talk therapy with a psychodynamic focus, cognitive behavioral techniques, dialectical behavioral therapy strategies, solution focused therapy, Gestalt therapy and diagnostic referral with psychiatry when Rx intervention is warranted. I employ from an eclectic array any useful tools gathered from my years of practice wisdom.
